Chatted briefly with a leader the other day who received an email that would send any of us, off the rails!!!
šµ No one likes to be accused of something they didn't do
šµ No one likes to have their integrity questioned
šµ No one likes to feel 'on the defensive'
Many years ago I drove past a church āŖ with a sign out front that read:
"He who angers you, controls you"
Uh....š¤ š§
ā¶ļø With this leader we worked through that the email was a distraction.
ā¶ļø His reaction was 'a reaction' not a response.
ā¶ļø And we came up with a question for the sender that placed the issue back where it belonged..... WITH THE SENDER.
I've said before, managing ourselves is one of the hardest things we do as we grow in leadership.
In past years, for me, and this leader, an email like that could have ruined the entire day, our mindset, and eaten up many hours of wasteful spiraling.
Now, we get curious.
Ask a better question.
Take what's ours (and no more).
and
Move on.
