It has been a year since I woke up to smoke…

It has been exactly a YEAR 🗓️ since I woke up to the sound 📢 of a smoke alarm 🔥 ⏰ and the sight and smell of smoke in my bedroom.

What could have been a disaster 😵, wasn’t. 😍

Why?

Well. A few things, looking 🤔 back.

1.   ✅ We had working smoke detectors.

We had something that was working for us, when we were not to tell if something really bad might be happening around us!

What systems or devices do you have to warn you of impending disaster?
For us in a house, it’s a smoke detector. And because we had them. I’m standing here today.

2.    ✅ We completed regular maintenance on them (i.e. changing the batteries) – they worked when we needed them to!

What ‘unlikely but very impactful’ warning systems do you have in place that require a little maintenance from time to time?

😳 Do you give it?

3.    ✅ We called in the experts 👩‍🚒 🚒 , we didn’t ‘do it ourselves!’

We could have stood around, admired the smoke and said…”hmmm, I don’t see fire, maybe we should look around, take some more data, think on it, etc..”
No, we took the PINK FLAG to mean a RED FLAG is coming and we TOOK ACTION.

Stop admiring the problem and call in the experts.

4.    ✅ We executed the pre-planned and practiced evacuation plan with our 4 kids and 2 dogs.

We could have had chaos.
But we didn’t.

I only needed to say, “go to rally point.”

They knew what to do and why. It was practiced.

Do you have a planning methodology in your company?
Do you plan like your life depends on it?
(I can think of methodology that has saved lives, #TGT, VMax Group Consulting)

What could have ended in tragedy, didn’t.

Because of a few key lessons.

It is only when, not if, a crisis will happen to either your family or business.

Are you planning for it?
