What do YOU own, when holding others accountable?
When you are holding others accountable, what do YOU OWN in return (if anything)? 🤔
Recently I had a great dialogue with awesome leaders who explored this concept as part of a 1/2 day workshop on holding high-stakes conversations.
Getting some different perspectives, I'm pondering a few things....
▶️ What do you gain or lose by owning something?
▶️ Could bring yourself to actually apologize for something to your direct report?
😳 If so, how would that deepen their experience of you?
▶️ As the manager/coach you stand 'in the shoes' of the organization. What if you are owning something you didn't actually do?
▶️ If you soften the walls around 'right and wrong' what becomes possible?
I have my beliefs and experiences.... I wonder what else is out there?
If you took some time to examine your own practices in these conversations, what patterns would you find? How can you make these conversations more collaborative and effective?
